We are a new company based in Huntingdon with easy access to the A14/A1. Specialising in racing engines and with 30 years’ experience we’ve seen an awful lot of engines. We pride ourselves in our honest approach, you tell us what you would like to expect from your engine we will tell you what we would need to do to achieve that result.
Perhaps you have a much-loved classic car that you would like the engine refreshed in preparation of a long promised classic rally in continental Europe, or maybe you have a full race competition engine that you would like us to find a few more BHP to keep you ahead of the pack.
SRD offer a range of engine and transmission services. From carburettor rebuilds and servicing to custom CNC machine work. We have all the specialist equipment needed to undertake cylinder head work, as well as crankshaft grinding, camshaft lobe machining and exhaust and intake valve work. Working with Road, Race, Rally and Power boat engines.
SRD are Weber and SU carburettor specialists. We undertake side-draught and downdraught carburettor servicing, restoration, rebuilding, tuning and setting-up for the best performance in your classic or period race car.
Carburettor rebuilds include our complete rebuild kit: Gaskets, O-rings, Float needle and Seats & Mixture screws when required. All of our Weber DCOE carbs also get new internal return springs. Floats are replaced as needed.
Our carburettors are stripped down and cleaned in an Ultrasonic chemical dip. All passages are flushed and cleaned to ensure that there are no obstructions. Carbs are reassembled with all new gaskets and seals, and floats levels are set. We also offer re-jetting and race preparation on the Weber 32/36 Series carburettors.
We offer uprated flywheels & clutches for classic and vintage cars for high performance, rally, and road car. Our skilled technicians can refurbish or manufacture clutches and flywheels on-site to meet your specific requirements. Most vintage and classic clutches & flywheels, will have to be refurbished or remanufactured because of the lack of spares availability. However, we specialise in rare and one-off clutches and flywheels.
We understand that every vintage or classic car may be different, consequently we will rebuild or remanufacture the clutch or flywheel for you for your particular car – race or road. In addition, we can replace all of the components from the original unit, including pressure plates, release plates and coil springs – providing an expertly finished transmission product
We are one of the leading UK classic and racing engine specialists. We have amassed decades of experience in performing cylinder head work for various makes and models of road going or racing classic & vintage cars.
Cylinder heads are usually suboptimal for racing applications due to being designed for maximum durability. Ports can be modified for maximum power, minimum fuel consumption, or a combination of the two, and the power delivery characteristics can be changed to suit a particular vintage or classic car application.

Older engines frequently need their valves reconditioned. We can undertake this specialist work.
If your valves are bent or burnt, or they need re-seating or replacing, we have the experience and tools to optimise or rebuild your classic car engine exhaust or intake valves to restore optimal performance.
Valve jobs may be undertaken as part of a larger engine rebuild or cylinder head work.
Crankshafts are often not a straightforward matter and require not just the correct machinery but the skills & expertise to do the job right – your engine depends on it. Intrinsic to the operation of the crankshaft are the attached pistons and con rods – which in turn operate inside the cylinder’s bores in the block. None of these components can be left to chance and require accuracy in manufacture, tuning and installation.
